PARAM Ananta Usage and Pricing Policy

FAIR SHARE GUIDELINES:

These guidelines are to facilitate HPC resource sharing amongst users and providing ensuring equitable access to the resources, while ensuring effective system utilisation. The following guidelines will apply:

  1. User Registration. All users desirous of using the HPC facility will need to be recommended by the faculty concerned. Based on recommendations users will be registered for use of HPC facility by ISTF.
  2. Resource Limits per User.
    1. Each user may access up to 240 CPU cores and 2 GPUs concurrently.
    2. Within these limits, users may submit any number of jobs.
  3. Improved Scheduling Flexibility.
    1. Nodes are grouped into partitions for providing flexibility in system usage/ resource allocation based on the nature of job and to enable management of the HPC resources.
    2. Users can define the partition they intend to use for the jobs as follows:
      PARAM ANANTA Queuing System
Partition Time Limit Nodelist Max CPU/GPU/Storage/Job per user
      Debug 5 Hours cn[001-002]
      • 24 CPU cores per user.
      Small 3 Days cn[003-020]
      • 240 CPU cores per user.
      • 2 GPU cards per user
      • No job limit has been enforced.
      Medium 5 Days cn[021-060]
      Large 10 Days cn[061-110]
      High Memory 10 Days hm[001-039]
      GPU 2 Days gpu[001-010]
For storage, every user has: 200 GB on /scratch and 50 GB on /home

3. Scheduling priority will be dynamically determined using Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management (SLURM) to balance usage across users

4. Based on the requirements, workload and availability/ utilisation of resources, ISTF may accommodate special requests of users if technically feasible, while complying to the usage and pricing policy with prior approval of In-charge ISTF.

Credit Hours for IITGN Users:

  1. IITGN users will be provided with credit hours for use of HPC resources. Once the credit hours are consumed, users will need to pay for use of HPC resources.
  2. 40% of Param Ananta resources will be provided as Credit hours for use by Departments with a minimum of 50000 CPU Credit hours and 250 GPU Credit hours per Department.
  3. Credit hours given to each Department for use in Calendar year 2026 are placed in the table below:
S. No. Departments CPU Credit hours GPU Credit hours
1. Biological Engg. 18,00,00 5,000
2. Chemistry 34,50,000 9,500
3. Chemical Engg. 31,50,000 8,500
4. Cognitive Sciences 1,00,000 500
5. CSE 7,50,000 2,000
6. Earth Sciences 5,00,000 1,500
7. Electrical Engg. 5,50,000 1,500
8. Materials Sciences and Engg. 67,00,000 18,000
9. Mechanical Engg. 74,00,000 20,000

11. Civil Engg. 50,000 250
12. Mathematics 50,000 250
13. HSS 50,000 250

Note: Allocation is based on the relative usage by departments in the current calendar year.

4. The credits will be issued on a yearly basis for next calendar year based on the relative usage by Departments in the present year. The credits issued will be promulgated in December of each year by ISTF.

5. Balance free credits of a calendar year cannot be carried forward to the next year or borrowed from the previous year.

6. HoDs will be free to sub-allocate credit hours to Discipline coordinators/ faculty members/ students.

7. Priority use will not be permitted against credit hours and will need to pay for.

Resource Allocation.

  1. Resource Allocation will be based on availability and fair share guidelines (Encl).
  2. Users are not guaranteed fixed allocations, unless reserved.
  3. Resources will be allocated once request is placed and payment is completed.
  4. IITGN may use its discretion for acceptance of reservation requests.

Users can request for Param Ananta High-Performance Facility (HPC) resources on Normal or Priority basis. Charges will be based on user, type of Request (Normal/ Priority) and resources requested. Provision exists for also reserving resources. Usage charges will be as mentioned in the HPC section “Apply Here”.
